Royal Mint Commemorative Military Set

A few weeks back, the Royal Mint got in touch wishing to license my portrait of World War 2 / D-Day Veteran Alan King to be used as part of a new commemorative Military Coin Collection.

I got in touch with Alan via his daughter Joyce and explained that I had been speaking with the Royal Mint and that they would be in contact, and the rest as they say is history...

2019 sees the 50th Anniversary of the 50p piece so to mark this occasion the Royal Mint have created a limited number of commemorative 50p pieces to mark the anniversaries of Military Battles / Events throughout history, that timed with when the coin was first released, namely:

  • The 950th Anniversary of the Battle of Hastings

  • The 150th Anniversary of the Victoria Cross

  • The 150th Anniversary of the Victoria Cross (Heroic Acts)

  • The 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain

  • The 50th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings

The portrait of Alan appears within the presentation holder for the Military Coin Set and now seeing it I simply could be more thrilled.

Here's a look at the internal display:

Since the coin collection has been released, the Royal Mint have been back in touch wishing to license three more of the 3945 Portraits (RAF, Royal Navy and Royal Marines) for campaigns due to run over the coming months, so I'll be sure to keep you updated.
